ABOUT THE SATURDAY ENGLISH BOOSTER CLASSES
- Enhanced writing and analytical skills: The course focuses on refining students’ essay-writing techniques, critical analysis, and comprehension skills, which are essential for tackling exam questions with clarity and depth. This helps students excel in both coursework and exams by teaching them how to structure answers effectively and improve language use.
- Tailored exam preparation: By working with experienced tutors, students receive targeted revision on key areas such as literary analysis, grammar, and exam techniques. This ensures they are well-prepared for specific exam challenges, including unseen texts, creative writing, and complex essay prompts.
- Boosted confidence in English: Regular practice with past papers, combined with personalised feedback, builds students’ confidence. This is particularly important for students who may feel uncertain about more subjective areas like creative writing and literature analysis, giving them the tools to succeed under exam pressure.
We recognise that progress in English is built on solid foundations. That is why we ensure children are confident with the fundamentals of English before progressing to more challenging topics. We also foster the study skills necessary for children to become independent and confident leaders. Study skills include:
- Time management
- Finding and using keywords
- Prioritising information and understanding exam questions

WHAT WE AIM IN THE BOOSTER ENGLISH PROGRAMME
We want children to interconnect the core areas of English and apply their knowledge and skills to answer questions and communicate effectively and purposively. Therefore, we aim children to:
- Develop fluency with reading more challenging texts
- Consolidate fundamental skills and knowledge in spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Develop a wide range of vocabulary and apply these to written and spoken tasks
- Develop competency in speaking and listening and learn to speak across a range of formats including presentations and debates
- Develop skills to produce written work that is clear, accurate and coherent and can be adapted according to different situations, purposes and audiences
WHAT IS COVERED IN OUR BOOSTER ENGLISH PROGRAMME
We focus on establishing a solid foundation and understanding on English. Equally, we foster children to enjoy learning English and excel at a school level.
We cover the following core areas of English in line with the national curriculum:
- Reading
- Writing – spelling, punctuation and grammar
- Writing – composition
- Speaking and listening
- Literature (Year 10 and Year 11 only)
Once children master the core areas of English, we continue encouraging developing children’s further English skills such as analysis, evaluation, inference and communication through regular practice and feedback.
